Who we are

The Portland Village Association (PVA) is a community-centered nonprofit supporting Portland Village School’s Waldorf-inspired mission. Through events, family support, and community engagement, we strive to create a space where children and families feel connected, supported, and inspired to grow together.

Organizational Structure

    Core Committees

    1. Event Planning Committee

      • Coordinates and plans major events like the Fun Run, Harvest Festival, Craft Fair, Spring Auction, and Teacher Appreciation Week.

      • Ensures events align with Waldorf-inspired principles and foster community engagement.

    2. Volunteer Coordination Committee

      • Recruits, organizes, and manages volunteers for school activities and events.

      • Maintains a volunteer database and matches skills with needs.

    3. Fundraising and Grants Committee

      • Develops and executes fundraising campaigns to build reserves and support school initiatives (e.g., playground, high school, and preschool development).

      • Seeks out grant opportunities and prepares applications to secure funding.

    4. Communications and Outreach Committee

      • Manages school-wide communication, including newsletters, the PVA website, and social media.

      • Works to keep families informed and engaged.

      • Promotes inclusivity and ensures outreach reaches all families.

    5. Family and Community Engagement Committee

      • Organizes community-building activities like Coffee Socials and affinity groups.

      • Focuses on creating a sense of belonging and fostering connections among families.

      • Works on inclusion and accessibility initiatives to ensure all families feel welcome.

    6. Teacher and Staff Appreciation Committee

      • Plans and organizes appreciation events for teachers and staff, including Teacher Appreciation Week.

      • Coordinates efforts to provide grants or wellness funds for teachers.

    7. Extended Care and Camps Committee

      • Supports the planning and management of extended care programs and seasonal camps (e.g., Village Ventures Camps, The Village Grove).

      • Oversees scholarship fundraising and distribution.

    Special Committees

    1. Auction Committee

      • Focused on planning and executing the annual Spring silent and live auction.

      • Manages procurement of auction items, sponsorships, and event logistics.

    2. Gala Committee

      • Plans and coordinates the gala event, including venue selection, sponsorships, and program development.

      • Works on outreach to broader community donors and supporters.

    3. Playground and Outdoor Spaces Committee

      • Collects input, designs, and oversees fundraising and construction for the new playground and outdoor spaces.

      • Engages the community for feedback and involvement in the vision.

    4. High School and Preschool Development Committee

      • Focuses on the long-term goal of establishing a Waldorf-inspired high school and preschool.

      • Researches best practices, collaborates with stakeholders, and develops a strategic plan.

    5. Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging (DEIB) Committee

      • Works to ensure PVA programs and events are inclusive and representative of the community’s diversity.

      • Organizes DEIB-focused educational opportunities and initiatives.

    Administrative Committees

    1. Budget and Finance Committee

      • Oversees financial planning, budgeting, and reporting for PVA.

      • Advises on the allocation of funds to programs, events, and reserves.

    2. Governance and Bylaws Committee

      • Reviews and updates PVA bylaws and governance structures as needed.

      • Supports the nomination and election process for board and committee roles.

    3. Membership Committee

      • Manages PVA membership dues and benefits.

      • Works to recruit new members and retain engagement throughout the year.

    Future-Focused Committees

    1. Parent Education and Waldorf Learning Committee

      • Organizes workshops and classes for families about Waldorf education, child development, and parenting strategies.

      • Collaborates with the high school and preschool committees to align long-term educational goals.

    2. Sustainability and Green Initiatives Committee

      • Focuses on environmental stewardship within the school community.

      • Supports gardening, composting, and other sustainability projects.
